David: Jacksonwille, FL. 32 years young
Christal: El Paso, TX. 22 years young
Together: We’ve been together 15 months
When, Where and/or How did you meet your BF/GF/Wife/Husband?
Christal: We first met during my spring break (March) of 2012. We exchanged information and began talking online. I didn’t think much of it at the time as I had been enjoying the single life. After talking online and talking on the phone for a couple of months, we decided to meet up again. I drove from Florida to North Carolina and spent Cinco de Mayo weekend with him. By the end of that weekend, we pretty much knew what we both wanted. We were both a little hesitant because of the distance. I’m from Jacksonville, FL but go to school in Tallahassee, FL & David lives in Fayetteville, NC.
What was your first impression of your partner?
Christal: I saw David and thought he was cute and very nice. He was a pretty funny guy and easily made me laugh.
David: The first thing I noticed about Christal was her beautiful smile. When we first started talking, she seemed nice, smart and fun.
When did you first know you are falling in love?
Christal: I’m not quite sure how to put it in words or the exact moment, but I just remember feeling so strongly about him and not feeling that way about anyone else before. We got along so well and I just felt like he was the one for me.
David: I almost kinda didn’t take it seriously at first, because it seemed too good to be true. But as we talked more, and with each visit, I became increasingly sure that this was serious and that this is what I had actually been looking for.
What has been the response from your family and/or friends about your relationship?
They’re all for it.
Christal: My parents didn’t really say much about it. They’re of the philosophy that as long as I’m happy being treated well, then, they’re happy.
David: Pretty positive, pretty supportive. I think my friends and family are just glad that I’m happy.
Have you ever received a comment as an interracial couple? If so, what was your reaction?
Christal: We’ve been lucky enough to not have to deal with nonsense and ignorance like that. Everyone has been pretty open and supportive of our relationship.
When you we’re a teenager who did you fancy, which teen idol made you scream or fantasied?
David: I had a huge crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Ever tried the cuisine from your partners’ culture? If yes, what is your favourite dish?
Christal: I’m of African-American descent and he’s of Mexican/Caucasian descent.. So, we definitely enjoy MANY of the dishes in each others cuisine.
What advice would you have for someone who is looking for love or would like to start an IR relationship but maybe hesitant?
Christal & David: As long as you’re doing things for the right reason, you should do what makes you happy. You should never limit yourself because of race or culture. You’ll be surprised at what you find.
What is the best advice you have ever received from your BF/GF/Wife/Husband?
David: Just to never give up and have faith.
Christal: He always very encouraging. We’re both in school and it is difficult managing that in addition to a long distance relationship. He always tells me to just do my best and to stop being so hard on myself. I tend to have perfectionist tendencies lol.
