Have you tried the cuisine from your partners' culture? If yes, which is your favourite dish and why?
- Trula: We really don't have different cuisines…I didn't grow up eating soul-food and he didn't grow up eating Irish based food.
What responses have your friends/family had to your relationship with your partner?
- Trula: They're all for it. My father was initially disappointed at first and actually told Brian if he (my father) were younger he would have beaten Brian up. But he quickly came around once he realized how much Brian and I loved each other and that this was a serious, lifetime commitment we had for one another. My mom and other family all liked Brian so no problems there. With Brian's family, they were very welcoming to me, no issues there at all.
What stereotype(s) have you found to be FALSE with your partner?
- Trula: Not to be vulgar or anything but the white male 'private area' stereotype is totally false.
What stereotype(s) have you found to be TRUE with your partner?
- Trula: He is a good provider, that's true.
What advice would you have for someone who is hesitant to experience an IR relationship?
- Trula: If you are hesitant, you probably shouldn't even try it. Work on understanding that people are people first. And understand that when dating anyone of any race, just be yourself. If you are white don't feel that you have to 'act black' in order to get someone black to like you. And vice versa, if you are black don't feel you have to 'act white' in order to get someone white to like you. Just be yourself.
What is the best advice you have ever received from your partner?
- Trula: This is not a romance-based at all but the best advice Brian ever gave me was to break down big goals into smaller goals.
