So back in November Staples Canada challenged The “Chonilla” Family to find the Ultimate Holiday Movie. So we got our ourselves ready, Popcorn check, hot chocolate check, blankets check, floor foam mattress check.
Oh yeah it was a lot of snack happening during that month and there is NO WAY mama is gonna further damage an old L-Couch.

Now agreeing in a movie to watch surprisingly we all got along really well in making a decision as a unit on what to watch, the extra challenge is engaging a 14-year-old boy to watch together as a family, so he was able to stay the entire movie and some he would check out. To be honest at times Hubby and I wanted to check out but we made a pack as parents to stick to it for the little ones.

Okay so a summary on how it went watching these four contenders. The first:

Elf (2003) - Cast: Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart and more…

As per IMDB: After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.

The girls had a chance to watch this with me (Mom) while dad was coming home from work and the teen was into it from the middle till the end of the movie. It’s out families favourite to get into the Xmas spirit. **** 4 stars

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) - Cast: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern and more…

As per IMDB: One year after Kevin was left home alone and had to defeat a pair of bumbling burglars, he accidentally finds himself in New York City, and the same criminals are not far behind. Did you know there is was a video game in Super Nintendo, HA!

The girls had a chance to watch this with Mom and Dad and the Teen was not into it from the beginning, so he bounce and I was really surprised, the girls attention to the movie was super low, I think it lasted for about 30 minutes their attention span on this one before they started climbing the couch. It was the first time they seen this franchise (the girls that is not our son) I guess we should have started with the first one. ** 2 stars

Next up Frosty the Snowman / Frosty Returns (20005) - Cast: Burt Reynolds, Bill Fagerbakke, Larry Miller and more…

As per IMDB: Frosty the Snowman goes where he is needed most, and the town of Evergreen sure needs a visit. Mr. Tinkerton, the mayor, runs a tight ship, and there’s no room for talk of magic or any other such nonsense. But, when Frosty the Snowman blows through town, he shows the town’s children that magic is real.

This movie, well, the Teen also bounce on this one but man the girls we’re really into this movie. And the whole time hubby and I are watching this movie we could not help to think how much Frosty’s voice sounded really familiar to us and it click this is Patrick Star voice from Sponge Bob. It was hard for us (dad and mom) to focus on this story and hubby breaking down the animation in the film (that’s what happen when you are with someone who animates for a living for the past decade). Overall this film was a success with the girls. ** 3 stars

The winner and ultimate holiday movie is Ernest Saves Christmas (1998)
Cast: Cast: Jim Varney, Douglas Seale, Oliver Clark and more…

As per IMDB: Ernest helps Santa Claus as he searches for his successor.

This is the only movie the entire we laugh, had fun, enjoyed every single minute and we’re glued to what was streaming on the Rolu 3 including the Teen. And man oh man Jim Varney is a genius in timing, facial expression and comedy I suspect this actor was somewhat an influence on Jim Carrey. Did you know Jim was a trained Shakespearean actor.

There you have it our winner Ernest Saves Christmas (1998).
