When, Where and/or How did you meet your BF/GF/Wife/Husband?
Nahjae: The first time I met my boyfriend was in French class. He was a new student who had just moved from California, and even though I didn’t like him at first, we soon became good friends and started dating.
What was your first impression of your partner?
Nahjae: My first impression was that he was annoying.
When did you first know you are falling in love?
Nahjae: I first knew that I was falling in love with my boyfriend, when I couldn’t wait to see him everyday and also when his parents didn’t want us together. For a year we had to date secretly and even though it was hard, we made it through :-)
What has been the response from your family and/or friends about your relationship?
Nahjae: They’re all for it. My friends and family have never seen a problem with me dating outside of my race. They have supported us and been great, although his family didn’t like it, over the years they have grown to accept it.
Have you ever received a comment as an interracial couple? If so, what was your reaction?
Nahjae: One time when we were walking, we got stopped by an interracial brother and sister that thanked us for being together. They stated that if it wasn’t for people like us, they wouldn’t be here. It felt good, but also a little strange!
What stereotype(s) have you found to be TRUE and/or FALSE with your partner?
Nahjae: I think for me, there is nothing, but for him, he says its true that I have attitude and we eat a lot of chicken. He also thinks that I’m not loud and obnoxious, like lots of stereotypes portray black women to be.
What is the craziest things you two have done together?
Nahjae: The craziest thing we have probably ever done is just walking miles to see each other whenever we could. We were only 16 when we met so we haven’t had too many chances thought our relationship for exciting adventures!
When you we’re a teenager who did you fancy, which teen idol did you fantasied?
Nahjae: When I was a teenager I loved nick Jonas from the Jonas brothers
What advice would you have for someone who is looking for love or would like to start an IR relationship but maybe hesitant?
Nahjae: My advice is to go for it! You’ll never know if you never try and an ir relationship could be the best thing to ever happen to you.
What is the best advice you have ever received from your BF/GF/Wife/Husband?
Nahjae: The best advice I’ve ever received Is to just be myself and be happy doing it.
