We met at work…we kept smiling at each other..then he added me on Facebook and took it from there.

How long you have been together?

We have been together for 10 months (we met a little over a year ago).

What has been the response from families or friends in regards to dating outside your race?

His family has welcomed me with open arms…I eat dinner with his family whenever we visit them, I’ve been on a trip with them, and his mom got me a gift for Christmas! We don’t see my family as much but they like him and ask about him.

He’s welcome in my house. I don’t think they were too surprised because I have always had diverse interests (especially music) and friendships…plus we grew up with different races. People we know think it’s extremely cute!! lol… I think some people were surprised because black girls dating outside of their race is still relatively rare compared to other interracial couples. Of course we have gotten mean looks but mostly from people who don’t know us.

Shelbi: “He just makes me want to be a better person in general. One thing I really admire about Timothy is that he does so many things for me & others without complaining or expecting anything in return…I wish I could be more like that!!! It’s cliche..but he showed me what true love was.”
